Your domain URL can be written in three ways, They will all lead your users to your website, but there are subtle differences:
https://mydomain.com – this is the full URL of your site. It is a bit like a postal address. It’s the way your visitors (and your browser) finds your website. The full URL should be used for hyperlinks in electronic communications such as emails, email signatures or electronic documents. For the hyperlink to work, the https:// part is essential. Without it, the hyperlink will not work.
www.mydomain.com – this version is the historic version of a domain name and is still commonly used on printed communications. Note that on printed materials, the https:// part is not needed as an offline, printed communication cannot hyperlink direct to your website. It is for information only. Sometimes electronic versions of your domain name will display as just www.yourdomain.com but it will usually be a different colour and behind the text, there will be the full hyperlink as described above.
mydomain.com is the modern way of putting your website address on printed materials. The www part is redundant and most people will recognise a domain name without it.
When choosing which version to use on your business cards, you might want to consider a few factors when deciding which one to use:
-
- Consistency: Choose a version and use it consistently on all your printed materials. This helps in building a consistent brand image.
- Aesthetics: Consider the visual appeal of the URL on your business card. Sometimes, a shorter URL without the “www” can look cleaner and be easier to read.
- Preference: Some people have a preference for URLs with or without the “www.” You might want to consider your target audience’s preferences. As a general rule, older internet users tend to use the full version with the www part. Younger internet users tend not to use it.
Ultimately, the choice between the two versions is a matter of personal preference and how you want your brand to be perceived.
