What sort of Facebook page do I need for my author website?

Some authors just use their normal Facebook page to promote their work on Facebook. This means that visitors can request to become your friend and you can request to become friends with other people. Personal pages are usually used by people who want to share their news/images/opinions with friends and family.

However, that is not the best set up to have if you want to promote your work as an author.

Basically, Facebook offers two main types of pages: personal profiles and business pages (also known as Facebook Pages). Here are the key differences between them:

Personal Page: Designed for individual use. People create personal profiles to connect with friends and family, share personal updates, and engage in social interactions.

Business Page: Designed for businesses, brands, public figures, and organizations. It allows entities to establish a presence on Facebook to connect with their audience, share updates, and promote their products or services.

As a professional author, you should set up a Facebook Business page (done via your personal page dashboard) to promote your books online. That way, people who are interested in your work can ‘like’ or ‘follow’ you. Once set up, you can tailor your business page to help promote your books including links to your website, an author profile and contact information and you can post endlessly about your work and your books to an interested target audience. The aim is to build up as bigger following as you can. Warning: it is easier said than done!
